Francesco Bartolozzi, R.A. (1727-1815) is an Italian engraver born in Florence in 1727.  He moved to London as a young man and produced most of his art there.  Soon after his arrival in London, he was named “Engraver to the King” and elected as a founding member of the Royal Academy.  Bartolozzi was serving as the director of the National Academy in Lisbon, Portugal when he died in 1815.
